“Social Estrangement” to be Avoided at All Costs

Posted in Doublespeak, Phobias on May 15, 2009 by desertdweller

Two posts come to mind from the past week exhibiting the “fear of offending” prevalent in Europe.

First, JihadWatch relays a report from Turkey (bold mine):

ISTANBUL – The top appeals court has upheld a lower court’s decision to be lenient on those who are found guilty of honor killing because the two families in Diyarbakr involved in the case faced social estrangement if they had not acted as they did.

And in a topic hitting closer to home, Ed West at the Telegraph comments on Michael Savage’s exclusion from Brittain:

Our joke of a Home Secretary called Savage “someone who has fallen into the category of fomenting hatred, of such extreme views and expressing them in such a way that it is actually likely to cause inter-community tension or even violence if that person were allowed into the country.”

Be afraid, folks.   Be very afraid.

Islamic Scholar: “Democracy runs counter to Islam…”

At JihadWatch, this report of a feed captured by MEMRI

Abd Al-Karim Bakkar: “Yes. But democracy is compatible with Islam on other issues. In democracy, legislation is the prerogative of the people. It is the people who draw up the constitution, and they have the authority to amend it as well. On this issue we differ.”

Glad he cleared that up.  As Robert says, “Abd Al-Karim Bakkar must be some kind of Islamophobe.

The Speech Geert Wilders planned to deliver

But Mr. Wilders was turned away from the U.K. after a threat from Islamists in Brittain.

He intended to deliver this speech to the House of Lords.

The Islamists are interpreting his call to ban the Koran according to Dutch Law as hate speech.  I didn’t know mirrors weren’t allowed in Islam.

Why I’m a fan of Mark Steyn

Mark Steyn coins a new phrase, saying he’s “phobophobic.”

“As the worlds biggest phobophobe, I have a great, crippling, paralyzing fear of all these so-called phobias…”
